Hey, I'm Lea, 21 years old, and I'm doing my apprenticeship as a media technologist in printing at RATTPACK® in Apolda. I'm currently in my second year of training - and I can already say: There's definitely no such thing as boredom in my job!
I actually come from a different background. I first started training as a painter, but then realized that it wasn't really my thing. So I had to find a new direction. With the support of a coach, I then came across the profession of media technologist, which immediately sparked my interest.
The start was exciting, especially because I started working shifts straight away. It was unusual at first and I wasn't sure whether it would suit me in the long term. But after I got used to it really quickly and I now really enjoy shift work. What do I love about my day-to-day training? Definitely the variety! Sometimes it's more about and technical understanding, then again it's about colors, controls and an eye for detail. It's this mixture of craftsmanship, technology and creativity that makes the job so exciting. It never gets monotonous. I think the vocational school is particularly cool. It's not just about media technology itself, but we also learn a lot about the surrounding areas, such as paper production, raw materials or other printing processes. This gives me a really broad understanding of how diverse the printing sector actually is. And the teachers there are great, many of them come from the field and know exactly how things work on the machine.
We also work well together in the company. My trainers and colleagues are great, I can learn a lot from them and always feel like I'm in good hands. Of course, at some point of course, taking responsibility and leading your own team at the machine is part of the job. I still have to grow into that, but I'm really looking forward to it. Of course there are also challenges. The trickiest thing is when things don't work as they should. Fixing faults on the machine is sometimes really tricky because there are so many special cases. But I am sure that with time and more experience, I'll become more confident.
Who would I recommend the job to? Definitely people who enjoy practical work and have a genuine interest in technology. If you want to work in an office, this is not the place for you. You need Stamina, willpower and enjoy mastering a huge machine in an ongoing production process. You should love and understand colors, that's the be-all and end-all in this profession.
What I particularly appreciate about my apprenticeship at RATTPACK® are the extras outside of work. Apprentice events are always a highlight, because you get to know your colleagues better outside of work. get to know your colleagues better outside of everyday working life. That makes working in a team even easier later on. I also think it's cool that our apprenticeship is constantly being developed, with benefits, new ideas ideas and even our own learning app. This keeps everything modern and we are part of an apprenticeship that moves with the times.
Kind regards,
Your Lea
